Im in 9th grade and my mom registered me for the PSAT?

So my question is What is a PSAT and how will it affect me in the 9th grade. it sounds like something juniers take. She said it's something for college so that kinda got me scared because i want to do good so i can get into a good college but im not the smartest kid. So is it something that i should be worried about?
