I saw a atheist on here tonight use the term retarded towards christians, isnt this wrong and ignorant?

The reason I ask this is because it was used in the sense of making like all christians are bigots, but isnt this bigoted?Id like to see the responses I get on this one.because my son gets labeled this word alot because of a disability and I find it EXTREMELY offensive.
